💖 Roses are red, violets are blue
Before you hop in bed, plan on safer sex with boo 💖

Barrier protection, such as condoms and oral dams, are effective against sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Many people are asymptomatic, or don't show signs of infection, so it's possible to have an STI and not even know it. Use barrier protection, just in case.

Additionally, condoms:
🙌 Are inexpensive and accessible – and actually free for Alaska residents via iknowmine.org/shop.
☔ Add a layer of birth control protection – no birth control is 100% effective, so consider using multiple options together.
💃 Can add to pleasure – with a variety of shapes, sizes and textures, condoms can enhance the experience for everyone involved.
💕 Have minimal side effects – if folks have a latex allergy, there are non-latex options. Be aware that animal skin condoms do not protect against STIs.

Make sure you're ready when things get 😘 intimate 😘 and order condoms at iknowmine.org/shop. (link in bio)

An important aspect to safe, consensual sex is making sure everyone feels comfortable and is on the same page.

In observance of International Fetish Day, this could be a good time to talk to your partner(s) about sexual preferences, kinks or fetishes. Keep in mind that everyone involved might not be on the same page or might have different boundaries. Try to navigate these conversations in a way that's respectful and not judgmental or shaming. At the very least, you'll gain a better understanding of everyone's boundaries and, quite possibly, you'll find something you're excited to explore together. When trying new sexual activities, plan ahead for how to communicate and respond to discomfort anyone might feel.

So what are fetishes and kinks anyway?
A fetish is often described as a fixation that's needed for sexual gratification (or getting off). Whereas, a kink can be a whole range of different alternative sexual interests, preferences or fantasies. In either case, consent is crucial for ensuring everyone involved is safe and having fun.

HPV vaccination is cancer prevention!
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common virus that can, in some cases, cause cancer. Thankfully, the HPV vaccine can prevent cancers of the cervix, vulva, vagina, penis, anus and throat. The HPV vaccine is recommended for youth of all genders ages 9-12, but teens and young adults (ages 13-26) can also be vaccinated. Talk to your health care provider about vaccine eligibility and availability.

We wish each of you joy as we ring in 2023. You and your well-being are so important. ❤️💕

As we celebrate New Year’s Eve, we’d like to share some tips for staying safe.
• Celebrate with people you trust and commit to looking out for each other.
• Practice saying no ahead of time – this can help you feel more confident in your choices, if you encounter peer pressure.
• Arrange transportation ahead of time if you decide to use substances, such as alcohol. Designate a safe and sober driver, save a taxi number in your contacts or install a ride share app.
• Be aware of your health and tolerance level.
• Avoid mixing substances.

These tips are just a starting point. Another good practice is to prepare well ahead of time. Equip yourself with supplies to keep you or others as safe as possible. Order condoms, safer-injection kits, opioid overdose-reversal kits and more at www.iknowmine.org/shop. (link in bio)

During this season of giving, let's take some time to reflect on the generosity that's been shared with us. Gifts often go beyond material things. They can come in the form of shared stories, humor, space, cultural knowledge and practices and so much more.

We can honor these gifts by expressing gratitude and sharing these gifts with others. While doing so, we ensure our cultural values, knowledge and practices are passed on for generations to come!

Today is Pansexual Pride Day. While the history behind this observance day is not well known, it's still a culturally significant day in the pan community.

Generally, people describe pansexuality as an attraction to someone regardless of their gender.

Like with other sexual identities, many people know they're pansexual before they're ever in a relationship. For some, they might have a sense of how they're attracted to others, but might not know how to articulate it.

A person's sexuality does not determine their ability to be in committed relationships, nor does it determine whether they prefer monogamous or polyamorous relationships.

In observance of Pansexual Pride Day, we encourage the celebration of diversity, so we can foster a truly inclusive community. We also encourage folks to share this information to help dispel common myths and misconceptions about pansexuality.

World AIDS Day takes place on December 1 each year. In 1988, the world united to found World AIDS Day, the first-ever global health day.

Today, we must continue to unite to end the HIV epidemic, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. HIV and AIDS-related illnesses impact individuals across identities and experiences. Anyone can be at risk for getting HIV/AIDS.

A key aspect to the prevention and treatment of HIV and AIDS is testing. Everyone ages 13 and over should get tested at least once. That’s right – everyone!

If a person is having sex without barrier protection (like condoms), has a new partner, has or had an STI, or has other risks for getting HIV, like injection-drug use, or is a person with a 🍆 who has sex with someone else who has a 🍆 they should get tested every 6-12 months. If a person thinks there is a chance they’ll contract HIV, they can talk to a health care provider about preventative medications, such as PrEP or PEP.

Join the cause to raise awareness around HIV/AIDS, commemorate those who have passed on, and celebrate victories, such as increased access to treatment and prevention services – share this post with others!

A person who is born Indigenous is inherently Indigenous -- no matter how they navigate life, they will always be Indigenous.

How a person relates to their Indigenous identity is deeply personal, so it will mean different things to different people. It’s easier to feel a stronger sense of Indigeneity and connectedness to culture when surrounded by our community, our people and our ancestral lands. However, some people don't have the same access to these resources. In these cases, we can help each other.

Connect, reconnect and build each other up, no matter where folks are on their journey. How do you stay connected to Indigenous culture, beyond Native American Heritage month?
